UFC 232 will be the event that closes out the year and its headlining bouts feature some of MMA’s biggest names and champions.
In the main event, we’ll get the return of the former light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones as he takes on an old foe in a rematch with Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson for the vacant light heavyweight title.
For Jones, this will be his first time back in action since July 2017. In Jones’ last time out he would score a third round knockout over the current light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. This win was overturned shortly after the fight as Jones would test positive for banned substances.
Standing across from him will be the Swede, Gustafsson who Jones earned a unanimous decision victory over in 2013.
Gustafsson’s last fight came in May 2017 when he put on a simply spectacular performance against Glover Teixeira who he would end up knocking out in the fifth and final round.
In the evening’s co-main event we’ll be getting to see the first ever female super fight in MMA history as bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes moves up and looks to dethrone the featherweight queen Cris Cyborg.
Nunes has defended her title three times since she won it in 2016 against Miesha Tate. Her current winning streak is now up to seven straight dating back to March 2015.
As for Cyborg, she hasn’t lost since 2005 when she made her MMA debut. Having defended her UFC title twice now, it can definitely be argued that this next bout with Nunes will be her toughest challenge to date as well as potentially her last (in the UFC that is).
UFC 232 takes place on December 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena.
