Urijah Faber reacts being underdog at UFC 203
This Saturday, MMA veteran Urijah Faber will step into the Octagon to fight Jimmie Rivera on the main card of UFC 203 in Cleveland.
The fight will be Faber’s first since his lopsided unanimous decision loss at the hands of bantamweight kingpin Dominick Cruz earlier this year at UFC 199. Following the loss, Faber was noncommittal about taking another fight, however it wasn’t long before ‘The California Kid’ signed on to fight #12 ranked Jimmie Rivera, who is on an 18-fight win streak, and has gone 3-0 in the UFC.
During a recent appearance on ‘TUF Talk’, Faber spoke about the fact that he’s in the rare position of being an underdog going into the fight.
“I don’t know who makes the odds, I know that once people start betting it changes the odds, so maybe he’s got some buddies that started betting.”
In regards to the fact that Rivera is going into the fight on an 18-fight win streak, Faber isn’t putting much pressure on himself to snap the streak.
“I honestly don’t think about that kind of stuff very often. There’s a difference between fighting 18 guys, and fighting the best guys in the world, and you know what I’ve been doing. I’m not too worried about that. I know that he’s very tough, I think he’s very under-celebrated. I like this guy, I like the way he fights, I like his mentality. I hear that a lot of people have turned down the fight. I heard him say in interviews that Aljamain [Sterling] turned down, that [Bryan] Caraway turned down. couple people turned this fight down, and that’s not how I live my life. I’m about to put it all on the line, every time.”
