Valentina Shevchenko calls for flyweight title shot at UFC 225

Back in early February, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Valentina Shevchenko made her anticipated debut in the new women’s flyweight division opposite Brazil’s Priscila Cachoeira. Shevchenko’s flyweight debut would go down as one of the most brutal beatdowns we’ve ever seen in the Octagon, as she absolutely mauled her outmatched foe to a second-round submission win.

With this destructive win, Shevchenko erased any lingering doubt that she is the next woman in line for inaugural UFC flyweight champion Nicco Montano. The dangerous Kyrgyzstani fighter has absolutely earned her shot, the only question is when that shot occurs.

In a recent Instagram post, Shevchenko announced that she’s hoping her shot at Montano and the flyweight title will occur at UFC 225, which goes down on June 9 in Chicago, Illinois. See Shevchenko’s post below:

“Waiting on the date for my next fight,” Shevchenko said in her post. “Would be happy to come back to Chicago again! #UFC225 June 9 #Chicago #125 #FightForTheBelt.”

With her beatdown of Cachoeira, Valentina Shevchenko rebounded from a razor-close decision loss to reigning women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes – a decision many people thought she should have won. This failed title bid against Nunes was preceded by impressive defeats of established contenders Julianna Pena and Holly Holm. Other notable names on her list of victims include Sarah Kaufmann and Jan Finney. She is 15-3 overall.
