Vicente Luque vs. Michael Chiesa set for UFC 265

An exciting welterweight bout between top-10 ranked contenders Vicente Luque and Michael Chiesa is the latest addition to the UFC 265 card. Cageside Press reported that Luque and Chiesa will meet at UFC 265, which takes place on August 7. The event is rumored to take place at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, with UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick Lewis expected to serve as the main event. Additionally, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is set to defend her belt against Julianna Pena at this event. It can be assumed that Luque vs. Chiesa will be a part of the pay-per-view portion of the event given their top-10 rankings at 170lbs.

Vicente Luque and Gilbert Burns are both top-six welterweights, yet the two will never fight one another. Burns and Luque have been teammates and friends for years. Burns is coming off a TKO loss to his former teammate in Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title and will face Stephen Thomson at UFC 264. It’s a very intriguing matchup and Luque says he’s eager to see Burns face “Wonderboy” and he plans to help Burns out as much as possible.

It was a wild fight for as long as it lasted, as both men blasted each other with big shots and rocked each other, but eventually, Luque proved that he is the superior mixed martial artist at this point of their careers with the submission win.

It was a wild fight for as long as it lasted, with Woodley landing a big punch early on that rocked Luque, only to see the Brazilian come back and hurt Woodley on the feet before taking him to the ground and finishing him by submission. It’s the kind of marquee win that Luque needs in order to fight the upper echelon of the UFC welterweight division as he continues to march towards the title. But before a title shot comes, Luque wants to take a money fight against Diaz first.

Woodley is looking to snap a three-fight losing skid when he meets Luque next Saturday night in the co-main event of UFC 260. The 38-year-old St. Louis native is the No. 7 ranked welterweight in the UFC, but with three straight losses to Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, and Kamaru Usman, the former champion is being used as a gatekeeper to the top-10 now. The UFC is giving Luque the chance to go in there and take on a former champion and see what he’s made of, and the oddsmakers like his chances. Luque is currently a -275 betting favorite, while the former champion Woodley is a +200 underdog at the moment.

Woodley has lost his last three fights to Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, and Kamaru Usman. Not only did he lose those fights, but Burns and Usman shut him out on the scorecards and Covington finished him with TKO. Considering he was the UFC welterweight champion just two years ago, it’s been an incredible fall from grace for Woodley. But despite the recent win streak he has vowed to keep fighting, and the UFC recently booked him to take on Luque at UFC 260. That event takes place on March 27.

Griffin battered UFC newcomer Ramiz Brahimaj, giving him black eyes with a laser-accurate jab and eventually finishing the fight with a series of strikes in the clinch. Brahimaj suffered a gruesome ear injury and the doctor was forced to wave off the fight. It was a huge win for Griffin and improved the veteran’s overall UFC record to 4-6.
