VIDEO | Horrifying arm injury halts LFA 39 flyweight scrap
LFA 39 took place last night live from Dodson Arena in Vail, Colorado.
The event was headlined by middleweight title fight featuring Ian Heinsich taking on Gabriel Checco for the promotions vacant belt.
Heinsich would drop Checco with a big right hand and then pounce on him with a flurry of punches which forced the referee to call a stop to the action early in round one.
Despite crowning a new champion at last night’s event, most of the talk today surrounded a horrifying injury that stopped a flyweight contest earlier that evening in Vail.
Brandon Royval picked up a TKO victory over Jerome Rivera just forty seconds in to their fight, this after Rivera appeared to dislocate or possibly break his elbow while attempting to brace himself along the cage.
Rivera noticed his injury right away and attempted to retreat while signalling the referee that he was injured.
Unfortunately for Jerome, he was forced to eat a head kick and a follow up punch before the referee realized what was going on.

This is definitely not the worst arm injury we have witnessed in mixed martial arts (watch Frank Mir break Little Nog’s arm for instance), but it was still nasty.
