It is no secret that former UFC welterweight kingping Georges St-Pierre has been trying to make a return to fighting in the UFC.
Recently, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping said on The MMA Hour that he was told by one of St-Pierre’s coaches that the UFC and “Rush” have “pretty much” made an agreement and that things were basically a done deal.
“I haven’t had any further dialect with the UFC [for an official fight] but I know that Georges, his trainer told me recently that they are pretty much at an agreement with the UFC,” Bisping said. “So the deal’s almost done and he wants to fight me. I am the fighter they are targeting. So it is not beyond the realms of possibility. Right now, I will assume that Yoel is my next opponent, but there is always that wild card.”
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani recently spoke about how and why the UFC and St-Pierre have finally come to an agreement.
“Really, after Ronda Rousey lost, things started to heat up and why is that important to know? Because the UFC needs Georges now more than ever,” Helwani stated. “They are on a shortage of stars right now. Conor McGregor is on a bit of a hiatus. Rousey may not fight again. Brock Lesnar just retired. Jon Jones is suspended. They need him now and then they finally got the deal done.”
