VIDEO | Marcelo Garcia suspends Dillon Danis from JiuJitsu gym
In a surprising announcement, famed ADCC champion Marcelo Garcia announced that his student, Dillon Danis, has been suspended from training at his gym after being encouraged to “take some time off”.
Danis of course has gained quite a bit of fame given his involvement with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and the SBG Ireland team. Most recently, Danis signed with Bellator MMA, and will be making his highly anticipated debut later this year. In addition, Danis is currently gearing up for his upcoming Submission Underground match with Jake Shields.
In a lengthy 16-minute video, which you can see above, Marcelo Garcia explains why he is suspending Dillon Danis. In addition, Garcia has suspended Mansher Khera, who was Garcia’s first student to progress from white belt to black belt.
Garcia explained in the lengthy video:
“I wish my black belts were doing the best they can to follow the examples that take people to a better place. That didn’t happen, and I felt even got worst each time I take a week off, something happen. I take a weekend off, something else happened,” said Garcia.
“It’s really hard for me to come home — because this [the gym] is my home — and to see they don’t appreciate the same values that I have, they’re not being the example I want people here to have.”
While Garcia has suspended both men, he explained that he doesn’t kick people out of his gym:
“I don’t kick people out. I really don’t want to do that. I told them to take some time off, figure out. One day if they have a better thought, they come here and I’ll be here and we’ll talk.”
Only time will tell how this situation unfolds, however it will be interesting to see if this situation is resolved before Danis’ Submission Underground match, and his MMA debut.
