On This Day: Frank Mir Submits Brock Lesnar

On this day in MMA history we have one of the most iconic submissions in UFC history. Eight years ago At UFC 81 Frank Mir welcomed Brock Lesnar to the UFC and handed him the first loss of his career as he submitted Lesnar in the very 1st round with a kneebar.

The win made it 2 in a row for Mir, who then went on to TKO Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and win the UFC interim heavyweight championship at UFC 92.

In the meantime Lesnar defeated Heath Herring to earn himself a crack at Randy Couture and the UFC heavyweight championship. Lesnar defeated Couture via TKO at UFC 91, and then met Mir for a second time as his first title defense.

Lesnar TKO’d Mir in the 2nd round to get his revenge and defend the UFC heavyweight championship.

While there’s been talk of a potential Mir vs. Lesnar III, as time goes on the odds of that happening grow smaller & smaller.
