Tough Guy Tuesday: Bob Probert

In today’s segment of “Tough Guy Tuesday” we feature legendary National Hockey League enforcer Bob Probert.

Probert spent his 17-year NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, where he compiled 3,300 penalty minutes in just 935 games.

The product of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, is widely regarded as being the NHL’s greatest and most feared enforcer.

Bob Probert ranks fifth in the NHL’s all-time list for most career penalty minutes, trailing only Tiger Williams, Dale Hunter, Tie Domi and Marty McSorley.

Although Probert was best known for his ability to brawl, he was also a fine skater who could score; his career totals were 163 goals and 221 assists.

When Bob Probert would trade punches with an opposing player at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena, Pat Benatar’s voice would be heard over the sound system singing: “Hit me with your best shot! Fire away!”.

T-shirts with Probert’s caricature, reading “Give Blood. Fight Probie,” were always hot items at souvenir stands.

Tragically, Bob Probert died at the age of 45, this after suffering a heart attack during a severe heat wave while boating on Lake St. Clair.
