Tyron Woodley has a message for Donald Trump
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is never one to shy away from voicing his opinion, regardless of whether or not the MMA community will agree with him.
Unfortunately however, since winning the welterweight championship by knocking out Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC 201 back in July, Woodley has faced not only criticism, but racism from people on social media.
When asked about the Presidential Debates, which aired earlier this week, by TMZ Woodley took the opportunity to send shots at Republican party nominee Donald Trump:
“I got something for Donald Trump. Quit mentioning Ferguson [Missouri], cause you ain’t never been to Ferguson, and that’s where I’m from. So he’s gotta keep Ferguson out of his mouth so he can keep my fist out of his mouth.”
“I take that personal, because he hasn’t been there. I saw that clip. Everybody that knows I’m from there was like ‘Oh he’s talking about Ferguson right now.’ I didn’t get a chance to watch it (the full debate), but I know the YouTube footage will break down the highlights for me so I’ll check it out.”
Woodley, who just won the welterweight championship at the end of July, will have a rather quick turnaround when he steps into the Octagon on November 12th at the Madison Square Garden to defend his title against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
After winning the title in just over 2 minutes back at UFC 201, Woodley shut Thompson down on the Fox Sports 1 post-fight show, opting to call out former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre and MMA legend Nick Diaz instead.
While there was a period of time where it looked as though St-Pierre could potentially be coming out of retirement for a fight with Woodley, the UFC and St-Pierre’s team are currently still in negotiations to bring ‘Rush’ out of retirement.
