VIDEO | Amanda Nunes guarantees victory against Ronda Rousey

This week, UFC President Dana White announced that former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 207 on December 30th for a title fight with Amanda Nunes.

Nunes, who had been very adamant about her first title defense being a fight with Rousey, opened as the underdog in the fight, despite being on a 4-fight win streak, and going into the fight as the women’s bantamweight champion.

During a recent interview with TMZ, Nunes guaranteed she would defeat Rousey, who was undefeated throughout her professional MMA career until she was viciously KO’d by Holly Holm back in November at UFC 193, where she lost the women’s bantamweight title.

When asked if she would beat Rousey, Nunes responded:

“Oh yeah, I’m gonna beat [her] 100%. [I’m] stronger than ever. I’m 100% going to be Ronda Rousey, I’m 200%!”

“We’re going to enjoy every single day in this moment in my career. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for! Fighting in the big card, like UFC 200 (Where Nunes defeated Miesha Tate to win the belt), and like I said: I have to defend this belt, have to beat [Rousey]. Huge show, huge event. Thank you Ronda Rousey, thank you UFC, who make this happen.”

“She only has one loss, and all of the champions have a rematch right away, and they did [with] Ronda Rousey. I think everybody wants to see, and Ronda Rousey deserves this fight again.”

The fight is expected to headline the UFC 207 card, which is being marketed as the UFC’s New Years Eve card.

While Rousey was initially supposed to film three movies in Hollywood before returning to the Octagon, her UFC return was postponed several times as she continued to commit to movie roles. UFC President Dana White at one point revealed that Rousey was targeting a return in November, leading many to wonder if Rousey would return for UFC 205, the UFC’s first show in New York, however that was ruled out.

Shortly after Rousey’s head coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, revealed that Rousey could be returning by the end of the year, UFC President Dana White revealed that Rousey vs. Nunes was official for UFC 207.
