Bruce Lee is one of, if not the biggest martial arts icons in the world.

Born in San Francisco while his parents were traveling, Lee was raised in Hong Kong. Lee grew up acting from when he was a young child. However, at the age of 13, Lee began training the martial art of Wing Chun under the master, Yip Man and the rest is history.

After moving to Seattle, Washington at the age of 18, Lee started his life in America and soon opened his first Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute. Two more schools followed in Oakland and Los Angeles. A demo at the Long Beach Internationals is where Lee’s life would change as he was discovered and casted in the tv series “The Green Hornet” and his career really blossomed.

In this clip highlighting Jeet Kune Do, his own style of martial arts that he developed, Lee inspired people around the world with his fascinating philosophy and techniques. “My martial art is in Cantonese, Jeet Kune Do, the way of the intercepting fist,” Lee said of his developed style.

“To me, ultimately martial arts means honestly expressing yourself, but it is very difficult to do,” Lee says in the video.

“He mixed his trapping into grappling,” said Lee’s student Larry Hartsell. “He had 32 different sequences. As you could see in “The Game of Death” and the “Way of the Dragon,” those two films gave you the grappling, the facelocks, the headlocks.”
