Carlos Condit was able to stick to his game plan against the elder Diaz brother in their fight at UFC 143. Condit took the fight with Nick Diaz to win a unanimous five round decision where he flustered the everlasting Diaz.

Condit said in a past appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast that he chose to stick with a game plan against Diaz instead of trying to prove something. Proving something is what Conor McGregor looked to do in his fight against the younger Nate Diaz, in which both brothers have very similar in style and strengths as MMA fighters.

“I had seen a lot of guys go in against Nick Diaz and gas themselves out trying to knock that guy out,” Condit said. “It’s like, you can’t knock him out.”

McGregor acknowledged in a pre-fight press conference that Nate Diaz has never been knocked out, but predicted that he would end the fight by getting the better of the ground game amongst the two. That turned out to be quite the opposite of McGregor’s prediction, which he has had a great track record of envisioning the outcome of his fights.

“He (Nick Diaz) took a full on left hook from Paul Daley, flopped around for a little bit, popped back up,” Condit went on to say. “Paul Daley blew his wad trying to finish him and then got knocked the fu*k out himself. And, I’ve seen a lot of guys hurt him, but he is so goddamn tough. He is so hard to put away. And, so yeah, it was more of a calculated approach.”

It was the biggest thing Conor McGregor could put together after he lost in the second round to Diaz. McGregor said Nate used his energy more efficiently and he ultimately lost the fight to Diaz.
