VIDEO | Conor McGregor working on striking with coach Owen Roddy
In just under two weeks, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the Octagon in the main event of UFC 205 against UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for a highly anticipated lightweight title fight.
The fight will answer many questions for fight fans, who appear to be split down the middle in regards to who they think will win the fight. While Alvarez has proven to be incredibly durable, many are predicting that McGregor’s pinpoint accuracy will pay off, and he will emerge with the lightweight strap as the first ever simultaneous two division champion, as well as just the third man to ever simultaneously hold two title belts. On the other hand, many believe that the power and wrestling of Alvarez will be too much for McGregor in his UFC lightweight debut, and he will ultimately lose the fight, and be forced to return to featherweight.
Ahead of the fight, you can see McGregor and striking coach Owen Roddy working on striking for the fight, with an emphasis on Roddy mimicking Alvarez’ looping style of throwing a lot of power shots in the form of overhands and hooks.
Ahead of the fight, McGregor has compared Alvarez to another opponent he fought and defeated, Chad Mendes. Pointing out that both men are incredibly strong, have strong wrestling backgrounds, and throw a lot of power punches. With that being said, McGregor has predicted that he will finish Alvarez in the 1st round with strikes.
On the other hand, Alvarez has predicted that he will finish McGregor as well, however his prediction for the finish mirrored the UFC 196 finish by Nate Diaz, in which he rocked McGregor before submitting ‘The Notorious’.
