This past Saturday in the main event of the UFC’s historic inaugural Madison Square Garden event, UFC 205, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor captured UFC lightweight gold as he landed an incredible 4-punch combo that left Eddie Alvarez stunned on the canvas.
The win not only capped off a historic night of fights, it also cemented McGregor’s place in the UFC history books as the first man to simultaneously hold UFC titles in two weight classes, as well as just the third man in UFC history to hold titles in two weight-classes behind Randy Couture and BJ Penn.
In the wake of the win, McGregor revealed that his girlfriend was pregnant with his child, and as a result, if the new UFC owners wanted him to continue fighting, they must give him equity in the company:
“They’ve got to come talk to me now because no one’s came and talked to me since the sale has happened as a businessman,” McGregor told the media following UFC 205. “I’ve been approached as, ‘Hello’ and that type of stuff, but I’ve earned something. Who owns the company now? People have shares. Celebrities. Conan O’Brien owns the UFC now. Where’s my share? Where’s my equity? If I’m the one that’s bringing this, they’ve got to come talk to me now. I’ve got both belts, family on the way. If you want me to stick around, if you want me to keep doing (this), let’s talk. But I want the ownership now. I want the equal share. I want what I deserve, what I’ve earned.”
Not only did McGregor finish Alvarez to win the lightweight championship, he became just the 2nd man in Alvarez’ career to finish the MMA veteran via KO/TKO, with the last TKO loss on Alvarez’ record being a 2007 TKO loss to Nick Thompson in Russia.
Above you can see the knockout receive the ‘Super Saiyan’ treatment, much like Donald Cerrone’s UFC 202 KO win over Rick Story did earlier this year.
