VIDEO | Cris Cyborg calls out Germaine de Randamie for UFC 214
The most feared women’s fighter on the planet, Cris Cybrog, announced this evening that she has been forced to vacate her Invicta featherweight championship.
Cristiane Justino released the above video detailing why she relinquished her Invicta featherweight title while calling out current UFC featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie for a fight at UFC 214.
“July 29th the UFC will be in south California and I would like to fight in my backyard in America in Anaheim, California. So Germaine, I hope your hand is healthy enough to accept my challenge.”
According to Cyborg, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will no longer allow her to compete at 145-pounds with a rival promotion.
Interestingly, the UFC did not make this decision until they crowned their own 145-pound women’s champion, Germaine de Randamie, this past February at UFC 208.
Cristiane Justino competed under the Invicta FC fight banner on five occasions, winning the promotions featherweight title in July of 2013 by defeating Marloes Coenen via fourth-round TKO.
Cyborg would go on to defend her Invicta championship on three different occasions, all while fighting on her current UFC contract, scoring first-round knockout victories over Charmaine Tweet, Faith Van Duin and most recently Daria Ibragimova at ‘Invicta FC 15’ in January of 2016.
Shortly after her first-round destruction of Daria Ibragimova, Cris Cyborg made her octagon debut at UFC 198 in May of 2016 against veteran Leslie Smith in a catchweight bout contested at 140-pounds.
Cyborg scored a quick win over Leslie Smith at the pay-per-view event, earning a TKO victory in just 81-seconds much to the delight of her hometown crowd in Curitiba, Brazil.
In her second UFC appearance, Justino squared off with Lina Lansberg in another catchweight fight that was once again contested at 140-pounds.
Although Lansberg proved to be a tough opponent, she was no match for the overwhelming power displayed by Cyborg who promptly finished Lina midway through the second-round of their event headlining scrap.
Meanwhile, Germaine de Randamie captured the UFC’s inaugural featherweight title by outpointing former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 208 in February.
“GDR” has now won three fights in a row and five of her past six overall. Prior to defeating Holly Holm in Brooklyn, de Randamie defeated Anna Elmose via TKO (knees and punches) at UFC Fight Night 87 this past May.
