Prior to UFC 196, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor revealed that he had committed to a bout at UFC 200, however no opponent had been named. This was likely to keep McGregor’s options open based on the outcome of his UFC 196 scrap. Of course as everyone knows by now, Nate Diaz defeated McGregor at UFC 196.

Following the bout, McGregor revealed that he would be returning to featherweight to defend his featherweight championship. Immediately, there were speculations as to when McGregor would defend the belt, and who he would defend it against.

The two potential opponents named were of course Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar. Aldo lost to McGregor at UFC 194 in just 13 seconds, whereas Edgar was promised a title shot after he knocked Chad Mendes out at the TUF 22 finale back in December.

This week, UFC President Dana White announced that McGregor would fight at UFC 200. Above, you can see the video of the announcement!
