VIDEO | Dana White fires back at Meryl Streep’s ‘stupid’ and ‘uneducated’ crack at MMA

At Sunday’s 74th Golden Globes, acrtress Meryl Streep was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award and gave a speech that got a big reaction from a diverse audience.

Streep fired off her acceptance speech with an anti-Trump message and took a crack at mixed martial arts and football claiming that the two sports are “not the arts,” which obviously got a big reaction from fans.

UFC President Dana White spoke with TMZ following Streep’s speech and addressed what Streep had to say.

“It’s not gonna be everybody’s thing and the last thing I expect is an uppity 80-year-old lady to be in our demographic and love mixed martial arts,” White said.

When asked if he thought Streep took a direct shot at MMA with White speaking at the Republican National Convention in support of Trump, White was unsure.

“I don’t know, maybe she did. I’m not sure. I mean, Ari Emanuel is definitely Hollywood and he makes movies and TV shows and wasn’t a Trump supporter either but I don’t know,” said White. “If you really look at who follows the UFC and is in to mixed martial arts, it’s everybody. Like I said, I don’t expect and 80-year-old woman to be a big fan of mixed martial arts and listen, everybody is in to whatever. I’m not a big fan of golf. Doesn’t mean people should stop watching it. If you don’t like it, change the channel.”

When asked if MMA should be considered an art, White had his reasoning to back his sport up.

“Oh, of course it’s an art. These fighters, the men and women are so talented. They train their whole lives to become the best in the world and people that get into the UFC are the elite of the elite. It’s saying something stupid like that is like saying she [Streep] isn’t a talented actress, which she is. She is a very talented actress.”

White went on to talk about the diversity of the UFC athletes with fighters and champions, both men and women coming from different countries all over the world as well as hosting the events in different parts of the world throughout the year.
