VIDEO | Dana White talks about Cris Cyborg’s failed USADA drug test: ‘I thought it was just strange that she was turning down all these fights’

The MMA community has been buzzing with the news of Cris Cyborg’s potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on December 5, 2016.

The UFC released a statement on Thursday stating that they were notified of the potential violation.

UFC President Dana White spoke with TMZ on Thursday about the situation.

“USADA handles it, we don’t,” White said. “The United States Anti-Doping Association will handle it, there will be some back and forth. We’ll see how this thing plays out.”

“So, it’s kind of weird. First of all, I was offering these fights at 145-pounds. First fight she had 8 weeks to get ready. Second fight she had 11 weeks to get ready and the third fight she just turned down and I thought it was just strange that she was turning down all these fights. Not so strange now.”

As far as any punishment, White said it is all in USADA’s hands.

“USADA will decide that. We’ll see how this thing plays out. It’s weird, funny how things work that I ended up making this Holly, Germaine fight at 45, which is perfect now. ”

White says that he hasn’t spoken with Cyborg yet, but knows that USADA and Jeff Novitzky has.

Cyborg has come out with a statement she gave to MMA Fighting saying that she is recovering from the tough weight cut she went through in order to compete in her last fight against Lina Lansberg back at UFC Fight Night 95 on September 24.

“What I can say now is that they are talking to my doctor, and I’m calm,” Cyborg stated.

The Invicta featherweight champion added, “It’s nothing bad. I’m on medical treatment.”

USADA states that “It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.”
