VIDEO | Dominick Cruz Slams TJ Dillashaw for Trying to Fight ‘Little Baby Boy’ Demetrious Johnson Instead of Him

Demetrious Johnson versus TJ Dillashaw. The UFC flyweight champion fighting the UFC bantamweight champion in an ultra high level MMA double title fight. It’s a match-up that everyone has been clamoring for, but still some people aren’t in favor of it. Although, it’s easy to see why Dominick Cruz isn’t keen on the idea. If you count the WEC bantamweight title which the UFC absorbed, Cruz was the bantamweight king from 2010 until he was stripped due to injuries in 2014. A title he nearly immediately got back upon his return from Dillashaw himself. The very same title he wants back.

“I think [the bantamweight championship] should be my next fight, but they play weird games where they want to give TJ Dillashaw an easier fight because he doesn’t want to fight somebody hard right after he won the title. He wants an easy fight. So, he wants to fight somebody that he knows he can keep the belt a little longer before he knows he gets a really hard fight, whereas I went TJ Dillashaw, Urijah Faber, Cody Garbrandt and then I lose the belt. Let’s go TJ. I beat you. Don’t you want to get that back? Stop going down and looking for little baby boys at 125. Silly Dilly, that’s what I call him.”

“I’m sad for [Dillashaw]. He’s not challenging himself. He doesn’t see the big picture. There’s only a few people that generate interest in this division and I’m one of them. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it, so where are you going? That’s the fight people want to see. There’s only certain fight that create interest in this thing and he’s running all over the place, anywhere but where the interest is and it blows my mind. It blows my mind because how do you sell pay-per-views, how do you get people to tune in if you’re dodging the people that generate the most of that just because you want safety.” — Dominick Cruz speaking on MaxOut with Ed Mylett.

Even though negotiations were underway as per Demetrious Johnson himself, Dana White seemed to have other plans for Dillashaw with Cody Garbrandt. So, who knows what match-up will actually get booked. Either way, Dominick Cruz looks to use his footwork to slide right in between these scenarios and block them from happening. He’ll be returning soon and he’s totally focused on that gold belt, and we all know what a focused Dominick Cruz looks like.
