UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko was in top form at UFC 247 last Saturday, defending her belt with a lopsided beatdown of top contender Katlyn Chookagian.

Shevchenko ultimately finished the fight on the ground in the third round. Prior to that, however, she was extremely dominant on the feet, uncorking many of her signature attacks—including her deadly spinning kick.

The spinning kick is not an easy technique to master, but famed striking coach Duane Ludwig is here to show you how Shevchenko does it. Watch Ludwig dig into the nuances of this dazzling attack in the video at the top of this post.

With her victory over Chookagian, Valentina Shevchenko moved onto a five-fight win-streak. Her last five victories—lopsided wins over Priscila Cachoeira, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, Jessica Eye, Liz Carmouche and Katlyn Chookagian—all occurred in the flyweight division, where she quickly became the champion. Her most recent loss was a hotly debated decision defeat to Amanda Nunes, who currently holds the UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight belts.

Other highlights of Shevchenko’s record include wins over Jan Finney, Sarah Kauffman, Holly Holm, and Julianna Pena. She’s currently a strong 19-3 overall.

At present, it’s not clear who Valentina Shevchenko will fight next, although Joanne Calderwood and Roxanne Modafferi seem like possibilities. Whatever the case, she’s bound to show of all her best weapons—including her spinning kick—when she next steps foot in the Octagon.
