VIDEO | Fedor Emelianenko vs. ‘The Korean Zombie’ in friendly fight
In this rare video, you can see MMA icon Fedor Emelianenko competing against UFC featherweight Chan Sung Jung, also known as ‘The Korean Zombie’ in a foreign gameshow.
While the ‘fight’ is certainly a friendly one, with smiles being exchanged by both men throughout the session, Emelianenko doesn’t hesitate to use his Sambo and throw The Korean Zombie from the clinch whenever he gets the chance. Ultimately, Emelianenko’s size and Sambo experience prove to be the difference maker, as he secures a key-lock armbar on Jung and gets the submission.
While there is no evidence as to when the match took place, Emelianenko is currently gearing up for his 2017 Bellator MMA fight with former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione. Jung on the other hand is currently gearing up for his return to the Octagon, where he will face Dennis Bermudez. That fight will take place at ‘UFC Fight Night: Houston’ on February 4th, where he will return from his mandatory 2-years of military service to South Korea.
Fortunately, it was well documented that during the course of his mandatory 2-year military service, Jung was able to continue training, with a video of The Korean Zombie rolling with Rener Gracie even surfacing at one point. In addition, Jung underwent surgery on both of his shoulders.
He spoke about the surgery, as well as training, with BJPenn.com in a recent interview:
“I had both surgeries before I started my government service. I spent a lot of time rehabbing both shoulders. One of the best things about the time off was that I didn’t have the pressure of pushing myself to the point of straining my body. I had some lingering injuries that never really had time to heal up before. So, during the past 2 years, both shoulders have felt good. In training, in sparring, they didn’t once make me wonder about those past injuries.”
“Now that I’ve been discharged, I’m back training hard. During my service, I was able to train on a daily basis, but I didn’t push myself physically as much. In that time I tried to train smarter than I was before. I’ve been trying to be more technical and think about what I’m doing when I train. So, I trained a lot of different techniques. I tried some new stuff, like fencing, just to try to widen my base of knowledge. I trained regularly with a Korean fencing Olympic medalist. It was a long break, so I was able to work on a lot of things.”
