VIDEO | Flashback: Conor McGregor and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone friendly with one another

It has been quite a journey for UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

The outspoken Irishman made his UFC debut back in 2013 and has gone on to set and break his own records in the UFC.

Let’s take a step back to January of last year for the UFC Fight Night Boston event where Conor McGregor headlined his second UFC event against Dennis Siver. Another fan favorite, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was also on the card in the co-main event where he took on former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

Prior to their fights taking place, we got to see some interaction between McGregor and Cerrone in the UFC Fight Night Boston: Embedded Vlog – Ep. 4 that you definitely won’t see these days.

Cerrone makes his way into see “The Notorious” prior to their open workouts and the two shared some friendly conversation (at 3:00 of the video).

“It’s f—king freezing,” Cerrone told McGregor after the two shooks hands.

“Yeah, it’s fresh,” McGregor said.

McGregor asked Cerrone, “How’s the body? Ready to go again,” McGregor said as Cerrone had fought just two weeks prior against Myles Jury at UFC 182.

“Good, good. Gotta get that money motherf—ker,” Cerrone told McGregor in a playful tone.

“Yes, yes. It’s all about that money,” McGregor laughed.

“All about da money!” Cerrone exclaimed.

Just before leaving McGregor’s room, “Cowboy” gave Conor one last bit of inspiration. “Give em Hell,” Cerrone said just before walking off.

It’s quite a stark change to today as Conor McGregor has grown to be a piece to the puzzle of the biggest draw in UFC history.

Cerrone and McGregor almost met in the Octagon at UFC 196 when McGregor’s originally scheduled opponent, Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of the bout due to an injury. “Cowboy,” says that he was given the fight with McGregor, but “The Notorious” chose to fight Nate Diaz who was not coming off a training camp like Cerrone had just had with a recent fight.

“When he fought Diaz for the first time, I just fought,” Cerrone said on the “Norton & Friends” show. “So it was Sunday, I was flying home, Dana calls and asked me if I’d like to fight Conor and that was for the Diaz first fight. And, he declined me and took Diaz cause Diaz was in Mexico you know, took the fight on 10 days notice or whatever. But, why would he want to fight me coming off a win? So yeah, my name was in the hat. Conor and his people didn’t pick me.”
