We already know that the weigh-ins for Fridays “RIZIN World Grand Prix 2017: 2nd Round” card were pretty insane, as footage of Ian McCall’s weigh-in brawl with Manel Kape has been making the rounds. This, however, wasn’t the only chaos to occur during the card’s weigh ins.
Elsewhere during the festivities, Gabi Garcia missed weight for her her bout by a whopping 27 pounds, tipping the scales at 236.94 lbs, well above the contracted 209-pound cap. Meanwhile, her opponent, the 53-year-old pro wrestler turned politician Shinobu Kandori (yes, you read that correctly), tipped the scales at just 162.25 pounds. Unsurprisingly, Kandori was not happy about Garcia’s weight. See the two fighters hit the scale (and Kandori lose her temper) in the video above.
Needless to say, Garcia’s massive weigh-in miss thrust the status of this featured bout into jeopardy. According to multiple reports, Rizin boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara has discussed possibly cancelling this bout, calling it impossible to allow “competition-wise.”
#RizinFF Update: Gabi Garcia was 12 kgs over. Opponent Shinobu Kandori freaked out and started yelling “this is a disgrace”. Sakikibara came on stage and said “competitionwise, we cannot make this happen.” Stay tuned.
