UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is quickly becoming one of the most popular fighters in the sport of mixed martial arts.

The Polish phenom has gone a perfect 14-0 during her MMA career which includes five straight championship title defenses.

After current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes pulled out of her scheduled UFC 213 main event title fight with Valentina Shevchenko, “Joanna Champion” won the hearts of every fight fan on the planet by offering to step in on just four hours notice to square off with “The Bullet” and help save the pay-per-view event.

Unfortunately, the Nevada State Athletic Commission could not allow Joanna to compete against Shevchenko on such short notice and Valentina was ultimately removed from the card.

The 29-year-old straweeight champion of the world, Jedrzejczyk, spoke to the UFC’s Megan Olivi about why she offered her services at UFC 213 in the video below.

“I don’t know, it is just all about the sport. When I heard that Amanda Nunes went to the hospital, I was like well I am here in Vegas so I can step in to the octagon and face Valentina Shevchenko. Like I said, if I was going to fight it was not about winning or losing, it was only about the fight.”

She continued:

“We were training and I was in touch with Dana (White) and we were trying to get me on this card (UFC 213) and this show. But, you know, the commission is very strict so it didn’t happen.”

Jedrzejczyk is expected square off with surging division contender Rose Namajunas in her next title defense later this year.

Who do you think would have emerged victorious had the NSAC allowed Joanna Jedrzejczyk to step in and fight Valentina Shevchenko at last night’s UFC 213 event in Las Vegas? Sound off PENN Nation!
