Nick and Nate Diaz have been the straightforward scrappers with attitudes from Stockton from the first day they they stepped onto the professional MMA scene.
Nate Diaz has had a strong following and his stock skyrocketed when he took UFC superstar Conor McGregor on at UFC 196 on 11 days’ notice and finished the then-UFC featherweight champion by rear-naked choke submission in the second round.
Nick Diaz has been a fan favorite fighting in various MMA promotions and picking up fans from all over the world, starting his professional mixed martial arts career back in 2001.
With both brothers always representing their hometown of Stockton, California that has the 209 area code, many clever fans believed the Diaz brothers would at the very least be fighting on the UFC 209 card coming up on March 4. However, neither Nick nor Nate are set to fight on the card that is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes that the UFC lost the once in a lifetime opportunity to capitalize on tying in the event name with the 209 area code that MMA fans are all too familiar with due to the Diaz brothers.
“How the f**k are they not having episode 209 in Stockton?” Rogan questioned on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast (at 1:05 of the video). “UFC 209 is coming up and it’s not in Stockton. That shit is unconscionable. They had one opportunity ever in the history of the UFC to do, they should have planned it. Like, I planned episode 911 [of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast] to be Alex Jones. They should have planned episode 209 to be in f**king Stockton with Nick and Nate Diaz. I guarantee to you, that shit would have gotten two million pay per view buys.”
