VIDEO | Jose Aldo surprises WBC world champion boxer Mikey Garcia in sparring
Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been busy working on his boxing training in California with world champion boxing trainer Robert Garcia. Garcia is a former world champion boxer himself and is the older brother of WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia.
We’ve seen Aldo sparring at Garcia’s gym with Mexican Olympian boxer Lindolfo Delgado and impress Robert and other gym members. Now, ES News recently published footage of Jose Aldo and Mikey Garcia sparring with things looking very competitive between the two combat sports stars.
Garcia praised Aldo after feeling him out in their first round of sparring.
“Good work,” Garcia said. “He can throw. He’s got heavy hands. Can feel the power in his hands because he’s just touching me but you still feel that power.”
Elie Seckbach of ES News replied, “Robert told me Maidana style heavy hands.”
“Yeah, he does,” Garcia added.
Jose Aldo has been making vast improvements with his boxing by working with Robert and according to Aldo’s head coach Andre Pederneiras, “Scarface” is looking to fight out his UFC contract as fast as he can so that he can transition to professional boxing.
Aldo holds a 26-3 professional MMA record and is coming off a UFC 212 featherweight title loss to Max Holloway. “Scarface” is 1-2 in his last three fights going against the best in the 145-pound division. Prior to his loss against Holloway, Aldo won a UFC 200 interim title fight against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and lost the UFC 194 featherweight title fight against Conor McGregor.
Mikey Garcia holds a perfect 37-0 record and is coming off a July 29 win over Adrien Broner where he won by unanimous decision.
