VIDEO | Kamaru Usman targets Rafael dos Anjos after big win in Pittsburgh
Last night, on the main card of UFC Fight Night 116 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, rapidly rising welterweight contender Kamaru Usman picked produced a thunderous, first-round KO win over the dangerous Sergio Moraes. With this win, “The Nigerian Nightmare” further established himself as one of the brightest young contenders in the UFC welterweight division.
In his post-fight interview with Jon Anik, Kamaru Usman sought to capitalize on this growing reputation with a callout of former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, who now stands out as one of the top contenders at welterweight.
“Anybody in that welterweight division that think you want this, you know you don’t,” he said. “Because I’m a problem. I’m a problem in that division.”
“They want to keep lining up anybody, and I’m taking them out. But [Rafael dos Anjos], you want to come into my division, and you want to talk about you’re going for the title? Are you serious? Line ’em up, Sean [Shelby]. Line ’em up, let me send them back down and make them cut weight again.”
With this latest win, Kamaru Usman improved to a solid 11-1 overall, and 6-0 in the UFC. His latest wins have come against dangerous foes in Moraes, Sean Strickland, Warlley Alves, Alexander Yakovlev, Leon Edwards and Hayder Hassan.
Dos Anjos, meanwhile, has gone 2-0 since joining the welterweight division, first defeating former Strikeforce champ Tarec Saffiedine by decision, and most recently, dominating long-time contender Neil Magny to a first round submission.
