VIDEO | Pro fighters predict winner of Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis
There is a UFC interim featherweight title on the line in the main event of UFC 206, which takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Saturday night.
Interestingly, the interim featherweight title is only available to one competitor in the five-round title fight as Anthony Pettis failed to make the featherweight limit of 145-pounds on Friday.
Pettis, a former UFC lightweight champion stepped on the scales with an official weight of 148 pounds. Pettis will forfeit 20% of his purse to Holloway and give up the opportunity to capture another UFC title. Pettis had the chance to be only the fourth fighter in UFC history to win a UFC championship belt in two separate weight divisions.
MMA Junkie caught up with some of the fighters also on the UFC 206 card and asked them for their pick to win in the main event.
“That’s an amazing fight,” said Kelvin Gastelum who fights Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 in a middleweight bout. “You know, I don’t know. I see Max pulling away with this one. I don’t know why, but I feel like he’s going to be able to take it.”
UFC featherweight Cub Swanson is set to fight Doo Ho Choi on the main card and will surely be watching the fight as he and Choi are both looking to climb the rankings for their own shot at the featherweight title.
“You know, I keep saying, I think it’s such a great matchup but I just think it’s harder than people think to drop down a weight class,” Swanson said. “I think with it being a five-round fight, I think Holloway is gonna have the gas to go all five rounds hard. I think that’s gonna be the deciding factor.”
