VIDEO | Stipe Miocic Claims Daniel Cormier Hasn’t Faced Anything Like Him Yet
We can’t talk about the upcoming superfight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic enough. It will be an historic fight and both men stand to gain an incredible notch on their record for beating the other. On his way to ending his career, Cormier plans on beating Miocic and accomplishing something even his rival Jon Jones wasn’t willing to try. However, the UFC heavyweight champion is going to do all he can to prevent that. Despite Cormier’s history at heavyweight, Miocic insists he hasn’t fought anyone quite like him yet.
“You know, [Daniel Cormier] and I talked about it and stuff like that. We actually talked to each other on the phone and made sure it was the right thing for both of us. We’re both gamers. We’re here to fight but also want to make sure it was the right thing for both of us. And you know, it worked out well. [I don’t gain any less by beating Daniel Cormier]. He’s fought heavyweight before. You know, he’s a tough guy. Listen man, I’m going to go out there and do my thing. We’re going to walk out with the belt still wrapped around my waist.”
Break the record once? Nahhh I still got shelf space. Who’s next? pic.twitter.com/DSBqWzpGq7

“Nothing’s gonna change. Listen, he’s a great fighter, an amazing person, but unfortunately he’s facing me. He hasn’t faced anything like me yet. I’m walking out ‘and still’. […] If it wasn’t for the coaches, I wouldn’t be here. So, we’re going to walk in, we’re going to have a great gameplan, we’re going to execute it walk out with the belt still wrapped about my waist. I’m going to keep repeating myself, because that’s what’s going to happen. […] It’s a fight to me. It doesn’t matter who is. Like I said, I could fight King Kong and I’d smash him. It’s going to be a great fight. It’s a great card. […] I’m just excited for the moment and excited for the opportunity.” — Stipe Miocic speaking to MMA Junkie.
Frank Mir. Roy Nelson. Josh Barnett. Bigfoot Silva. All were defeated at 13-0 heavyweight Daniel Cormier’s hands. …But that was years ago. Since then a lot has changed and Stipe Miocic has beaten a who’s who of heavyweights in the UFC. The MMA math here sets calculators on fire. The variables are all over the place. It’s too much. It may be best to try and not think about who wins, sit back, and just enjoy this amazing spectacle of a fight where two of the absolute best in their class fight each other.
