A fan asked Ortiz about running into Sonnen and referee “Big” John McCarthy after the bout.

“Yeah, when I bumped into Chael, I bumped into “Big” John McCarthy,” Ortiz said (at 3:06 of the video). “It was funnier than shit. I almost took him out, almost took out the referee, pulled out a WWE on his ass,” Ortiz said with a smile.

McCarthy had to get physical with Ortiz as “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” held onto his chokehold on Sonnen a bit longer than needed. Ortiz explained at the post-fight press conference that he had “ill will” towards Sonnen after all of “The American Gangster’s” trash talk, which he is infamously known for.

McCarthy also stated in a series of Ask “Big” John McCarthy questions on twitter that he had to hurt Ortiz to make him let go of the submission on Sonnen. McCarthy said that he had to shove his thumb into Ortiz’s larynx to make him let go of the choke on Sonnen.

Sonnen said at the post-fight press conference that he didn’t have any animosity towards Ortiz for not immediately letting go of the choke when referee “Big” John McCarthy stepped in. “I tapped and he didn’t let go. I’m not upset about it. I don’t have any ill feelings towards him,” Sonnen said. “But yes did he hold the choke after I tapped? Sure.”
