VIDEO | Tyron Woodley cam of McGregor-Alvarez altercation
During the UFC 205 press conference, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor caught some criticism for walking into the event late. By the time McGregor appeared onstage, his opponent for UFC 205, Eddie Alvarez, had already left the stage earlier in the event.
When McGregor finally joined UFC President Dana White, and several of the other fighters from the card on stage, he marched across the stage and took the lightweight championship from where Alvarez had previously been sitting. That didn’t sit too well with Alvarez, who then proceeded to march back onstage, and take the belt back, which resulted in McGregor nearly throwing a chair as UFC President Dana White, and a security guard, attempted to regain control of the situation.
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who was also onstage for the event, was quick to pull out his camera and capture some first person footage of the incident.
McGregor & Alvarez of course are currently slated to throw down in the main event of UFC 205 in New York on Saturday for the lightweight belt, with McGregor eyeing a chance at UFC history as he looks to become the first simultaneous two-division UFC champion by dethroning Alvarez. On the flip side, Alvarez is looking to derail McGregor’s plans of a future at 155 pounds, while making his first successful title defense on the card.
At the conclusion of the press conference, both men came face to face for their first fight week staredown ahead of their clash Saturday night. While the pair didn’t get into a physical altercation during the staredown, things were certainly heated between the two men as UFC President Dana White, who was noticeably on edge, forced the men to maintain their composure, as well as their distance.
