VIDEO | UFC 206: Fight Motion – slow motion action from Swanson vs. Choi, Cerrone vs. Brown, Holloway vs. Pettis
Despite losing the initially scheduled UFC light heavyweight main event between champion Daniel Cormier and challenger Anthony Johnson, the UFC 206 card that took place in Toronto, Canada over the weekend gave fans an action packed event.
The main card featured some fights that had many of the people in the Air Canada Centre, as well as the fans tuning in on pay-per-view standing in excitement.
Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi put on what many are calling the Fight of the Year just in time to round out 2016. Swanson ended up winning a unanimous decision after three mind blowing rounds of the two featherweights doing everything they had in their power to take each other out. It was Choi’s first loss in the UFC after steamrolling his way through his first three UFC fights, winning all three by knockout in the very first round.
In the co-main event of the evening, Donald Cerrone once again proved himself to be one of the elite contenders in the welterweight division after finishing Matt Brown in the third round via head kick knockout. It was the first time in Brown’s 20-16 professional mixed martial arts career that he lost by knockout. Cerrone continues his tear at 170 and is now 4-0 in the UFC welterweight division and climbing his way up to a UFC welterweight title fight.
In the main event, Max Holloway became the first man to finish former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. With the third round TKO over Pettis, Holloway became the UFC interim featherweight champion of the world and will likely face Jose Aldo next as the Brazilian was recently promoted to the undisputed UFC featherweight champion after it was announced by the UFC that Conor McGregor relinquished the featherweight title.
