UFC Hall of Fame fighter and former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes recently sat down with Joe Buck for an upcoming episode of AT&T’s “Undeniable with Joe Buck”, where he hinted that he may be in talks with a mixed martial arts promotion regarding a comeback fight.

“If I could find an opponent that I think I could beat, then I would go (fight) again.”

He continued:

“Yea I might even be talking to an organization about that so… I could be in talks for something like that. Maybe. That is big news. Nobody knows that by the way.”

Hughes dropped Joe Buck and the audience a hint in regards to who his comeback opponent could be.

“The guy I am talking about fighting might have been (a guest) in this chair.”

Matt Hughes has not competed inside the cage since UFC 135 in September of 2011, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Josh Koscheck.

Prior to that, the UFC legend was coming off a 21-second knockout loss at the hands of our namesake BJ Penn at UFC 123 in November of 2010.

Hughes most recent win came at UFC 117 in August of 2010 where he submitted Ricardo Almeida with a first-round Anaconda choke.

Best Comebacks in UFC History

The former welterweight champion has gone 3-2 overall in his past five fights.

Matt Hughes first captured the UFC welterweight strap in November of 2001 when KO’d Carlos Newton with a slam in the second-round of their title fight at UFC 34.

Hughes would go on to defend the title on five separate occasions before eventually surrendering the crown to BJ Penn at UFC 46 in January 2004.

Matt would recapture the UFC’s welterweight title later that year (2004), when he submitted Georges St-Pierre at UFC 50.

From there, Hughes would go on to defend his strap on two occasions, defeating rivals Frank Trigg and BJ Penn, before eventually losing the belt in a rematch with St-Pierre at UFC 65.
