Last weekend, in the main event of UFC 226, Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic to capture the UFC heavyweight title. Given that Cormier already owned the UFC light heavyweight title at the time, this win made hime one of just two fighters in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes concurrently — the other being Conor McGregor
It goes without saying that this second title win was a huge moment for Cormier and his family. Yet this victory was also a massive win for Cormier’s team, American Kickboxing Academy, where he’s trained since the salad days of his mixed martial arts career.
In the video at this post, we can see injury-plagued former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and a number of other of Cormier’s AKA teammates react to his abrupt and decisive first-round knockout of Miocic. From the looks of it, they were equal parts thrilled and relieved that the fight with the dangerous knockout puncher Miocic went in their favor.
“Saturday was a great night, but not just for me,” Cormier said in the caption for his video post. “Att the @americankickboxingacademy we are a family. Here is @officialcainvelasquez, @slikbxr and @iamthebay watching the fight in the locker room. I love my team! The best gym in the world AKA! Go to @iamthebay YouTube page for [behind the scenes].”

“They always watch from the locker room,” Cormier said in a followup Tweet, when a fan asked why Velasquez and company weren’t watching from cage-side.
