The “Soldier of God” took to the open workouts ahead of the fight and showed off his freakish athleticism. One factor that only adds to the extraordinary abilities of Romero is that the middleweight contender is 40-years-old.

“First of all before anything, may God bless every one of you,” said the “Soldier of God” via his translator at the open workouts. “I’m here to do this, to become the first Hispanic (native), first time for Miami, to be a UFC champion. I have prepared myself for this. I was made for this.”

When asked why he believes his striking will overcome the power of Whittaker, Romero said, “Because God is on my left, and God is on my right.”

Romero is 12-1 in his professional mixed martial arts career and is riding and eight-fight winning streak, winning all of his UFC fights since his debut with the promotion. The Cuban Olympic silver medalist was suspended in 2016 after he tested positive for the banned substance Ibutamoren. USADA confirmed that the positive test was the result of a tainted supplement and Romero’s sanction was set for six months. Following the suspension term, Romero took out former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at UFC 205 in November with a vicious flying knee that ended the fight in the third round.
