Wednesday Warriors: Ron Hextall vs. Felix Potvin

By Chris Taylor - February 17, 2016

In this week’s segment of “Wednesday Warriors” we feature a scrap between former National Hockey League goaltenders Felix Potvin and Ron Hextall.

Ron Hextall played thirteen seasons in the NHL from 1986-1999. Eleven of Ron’s thirteen seasons were spent as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Hextall also spent two seasons playing goalie for the Quebec Nordiques and New York Islanders.

In his 608 National Hockey League games played, Hextall accumulated an astonishing 584 penalty minutes.

Hextall was well known for his ability to agitate players on the opposing team. Ron was often seen slashing the back of opposing forwards legs who dared enter his goalie crease.

Meanwhile, Felix Potvin played in the National Hockey League from 1991-2004.

“The Cat” played most of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but also spent time with the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins.

Unlike Hextall, Potvin was not known for being an agitator, much less a fighter.

However, Felix showed no-fear in 1996 when Hextall decided to skate across the rink and challenge Potvin to scrap, as you can see in the above video.
