WSOF 24's Jon Fitch: 'I respected Yushin Okami's power too much'
BJPENN.COM News - October 18, 2015
World Series of Fighting hosted UFC veterans Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami’s first meeting at “WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami”. With a combined seventy-six professional fights to their name, it is to nobody’s surprise that they fought intelligently and cautiously for fifteen minutes straight. Of course one would catch the other off guard with the occasional takedown or heavy strike, but it was mostly Jon Fitch’s fight to lose at “WSOF 24”. Fitch thinks he gave Okami too much credit in the strength department, something he capitalized on in the second round. “He’s definitely strong, but I’m a beast myself,” Fitch told MMA Junkie. “In the first round, I gave him too much credit for how strong he was going to be. I kept waiting for him to hulk me over with the body lock, because he was locking his hands a few times. I think that I eventually overpowered him and made him constantly work, drain the oxygen from his muscles and slowed him down a little bit. He’s kind of awkward and big, long and difficult to deal with.”
