Michael Bisping hopes Robert Whittaker “beats the brains out of Yoel Romero”

By Tom Taylor - May 23, 2017

From the sounds of it, Michael Bisping’s much discussed middleweight title defense against former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will not happen. If it does happen, it won’t be until the fall, as St-Pierre will not be available until then. Though this might give the impression that Bisping will defend his title against Yoel Romero or Robert Whittaker sometime this summer, Bisping has instead announced that he’s dealing with some nagging injuries, and that he probably won’t be available for a fight for some time.

Michael Bisping gives Yoel Romero the finger

To combat this complicated situation at middleweight, the UFC is reportedly considering a Yoel Romero vs. Robert Whittaker interim middleweight title fight to keep the division moving. This fight, of course, would be of particular interest to the undisputed champion Bisping.

On a recent episode of his podcast Believe You Me, Bisping explained that he has a very particular hope as far as the outcome of this potential fight goes. As a fan of Whittaker, and a big-time critic of Romero, he’s hoping the former beats the brakes off the latter.

His words:

“I’m assuming that they’re probably gonna do an interim title fight but I’ve got to speak to Dana. . . Probably Whittaker vs. Yoel, if I were the matchmakers, that’s what I’d do. Whittaker, we all know this, he’s on an absolute tear. I’ve got nothing against Robert Whittaker. Fine young man, great fighter, fights hard, got a lot of respect for him. Can’t say the same about Yoel. Yoel is certainly not on my Christmas card list. We all know my thoughts on him. He’s a scumbag, he’s a cheat, and that’s that. So if they do fight I, hope Whittaker beats the brains out of him.”
