VIDEO | Yoel Romero films anti-Bisping promo on the streets of Cuba
Earlier this month, in the main event of the anticipated UFC 213, Cuban wrestler Yoel Romero stepped into the Octagon with surging Kiwi-Australian contender Robert Whittaker. The winner of this bout would be crowned the UFC’s interim middleweight champion, which would in turn earn them a title unifying showdown with undisputed middleweight champ Michael Bisping.
Despite some real success in the first two rounds of the fight, Romero began to fade quickly in the third, and was ultimately pieced up by Whittaker for the remainder of the fight. The end result, then, was a pretty clear three rounds to two for the Australian, which meant that he, not Romero, would return home with the interim strap around his waist.
Though Romero lost his chance at a title unifying scrap with Michael Bisping – at least for the moment – his beef with the champ is still alive and well. This is due in large part to Bisping’s controversial, cage-side antics as the battle raged, during which he ripped up a Cuban flag and threw it in the direction of Romero’s corner.
As a proud Cuban, Romero unsurprisingly didn’t appreciate this move from the champ. Shortly after the fact, he responded by burning a picture of Bisping holding the Union Jack (and lighting a cigar off the flames). More recently still, Romero has released video – shot on the streets of Cuba – throughout which he scolds the middleweight champ and promises vengeance will be dealt.

Romero’s loss to Whittaker marked the end of an impressive, eight-fight streak. The 40 year old Cuban is now 12-2 overall.
Do you think Yoel Romero and Michael Bisping will ever fight?
