Yesterday afternoon, the MMA community was hit by the unfortunate news that Yair Rodriguez had been forced out of his anticipated UFC 228 featherweight showdown with rising Russian star Zabit Magomedsharipov.

From there, the UFC began scrambling to find a replacement opponent for Magomedsharipov on short notice.

Whatever the case, Zabit Magomedsharipov doesn’t seem to be done with Yair Rodriguez.

Speaking on Twitter yesterday, the Russian took a shot at Rodriguez, assuring that he plans on fighting a replacement opponent at UFC 228 on September 8, then Rodriguez in November or December.

See it below.

“[Yair Rodriguez] if you injured or not I’m fighting regardless so get your mind prepared for a battle,” he said. “Im going to fight someone in September and I will fight you in November or December. No more running.”

Zabit Magomedsharipov is currently an impressive 15-1 overall. Since joining the UFC, he’s rattled off impressive victories over Mike Santiago, Sheymon Moraes, and most recently, Kyle Bochniak in a 2018 Fight of the Year contender.

Yair Rodriguez, meanwhile, has not fought since May of 2017, when he was stopped by former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. He’s 10-2 overall.
