These days, it seems like trash talk is part of the buildup to almost every major UFC fight. Pre-fight press conferences, media conference calls and interviews are increasingly filled with virulent mudslinging, while incidents like Conor McGregor‘s infamous bus rampage and the UFC 229 post-fight brawl seem to be making headlines with greater frequency. For fighters who aren’t fond of this kind of drama, this can be a little problematic.

Demetrious Johnson joined ONE Championship this weekend as part of a historic trade which sent undefeated welterweight Ben Askren to the UFC. The former UFC flyweight kingpin, Johnson (27-3-1 MMA), officially announced that he had joined the Asian-based promotion earlier this evening on Twitter.

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC Moncton, SBG Ireland staple and Conor McGregor training partner Artem Lobov came up short against former lightweight contender Michael Johnson. Johnson took the bout on short notice, replacing Lobov’s original opponent Zubaira Tukhugov, and missed weight for the bout. With this loss, Artem Lobov fell onto a three-fight skid. His overall record, meanwhile, now sits at 13-15-1. Given these less-than-stellar stats, some fans feel that Lobov has only been kept around by the UFC due to his closeness with Conor McGregor.

While the Swiss knockout artist was careful not to take away from Smith’s victory, he say he had a little bit of trouble due to a lingering nose injury.

In the co-headliner of tonight’s UFC Moncton event, featherweights Artem Lobov and Michael Johnson collided in hopes of moving up the 145-pound ranks. “The Russian Hammer” was initially slated to face Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate Zubaira Tukhugov (18-4 MMA) at UFC Moncton. However, the promotion pulled Tukhugov off of the fight card shortly following the Russians involvement in UFC 229’s now infamous post fight brawl.
