UFC welterweight superstar Jorge Masvidal says that he is the leading candidate to box Floyd Mayweather under the Zuffa Boxing banner. It’s no secret that UFC president Dana White and Mayweather, the boxing legend, are in cahoots and working on some sort of agreement for his comeback fight. Mayweather recently revealed that he is returning to the boxing ring after a short-lived retirement, but so far we haven’t heard who his opponent could be, only that his next fight will likely come under the Zuffa Boxing banner.

Dana White believes Conor McGregor beating Donald Cerrone is crucial for the Irishman’s career. On Jan. 18 in the main event of UFC 246, the Irishman in McGregor will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon to battle Cerrone. The fight will also be at welterweight as White says neither wanted to cut down to 155 pounds.

Pedro Munhoz is happy that flyweights can get back to business now that Henry Cejudo has relinquished his belt. “Triple C’s” “champ champ” days are no more, as yesterday it was announced that Cejudo was stripped off the 125lbs belt. According to the former Olympic wrestler, it was his own choice to relinquish the belt.

Alistair Overeem considers Jairzinho Rozenstruik fight a win

Alistair Overeem was moments away from a clear-cut unanimous decision win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik when disaster struck. With mere seconds left on the clock, he was dropped by a Rozenstruik punch, which also tore his lip open. Rozenstruik walked off, and the fight was promptly waved off by the referee. As far as Overeem is concerned, though, the fight should not have been stopped. Though his lip was badly damaged, he was still concious.

Petr Yan has been running through the UFC’s bantamweight division and at UFC 245, he was opened the pay-per-view card against Urijah Faber. It was the biggest fight of his career, and the perfect opportunity to make a statement. Ultimately, that is what Yan did. He looked impressive throughout the fight, dropping Faber numerous times with vicious elbows, knees, and punches.

Next year is set to be a big one for the promotion and with 2019 coming to an end, it really does seem like this could be one of those years that will be up there with 2016 in terms of success. On Saturday, the UFC will touch down in the Korean coastal city of Busan with the aptly titled UFC Busan card. The card will be topped by a featherweight fight between local hero “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. The Korean Zombie was originally expected to battle Brian Ortega on the card, but when Ortega sustained an injury in training, Edgar stepped into replace him.

Robert Whittaker is headed back to the cage. The former UFC middleweight champion will return to action opposite Jared Cannonier at UFC 248, which goes down on March 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
