Vinc Pichel wanted to fight Mark Madsen for a few reasons. Pichel and Madsen were booked to fight one another at UFC 271 in February, but the wrestling ace was forced out of the bout. Pichel was then offered a fight against Nasrat Haqparast but ultimately decided to turn that down as he had his sights firmly set on Madsen.

Khamzat Chimaev is set for the biggest test of his career on Saturday at UFC 273. Back for the first time since his destructive win over Li Jingliang at UFC 267, the welterweight is facing Gilbert Burns. The former UFC welterweight title challenger, Burns (20-4 MMA), is coming off a win over Stephen Thompson last July.

Petr Yan’s manager Danny Rubenstein has said this is the first time the Russian will be fighting injury free in his career. This Saturday night at UFC 273, Petr Yan will attempt to win back the UFC bantamweight title that he lost at UFC 259. On that night last year, he lost the belt to Aljamain Sterling via disqualification after throwing an illegal knee at “Funk Master” that left him unable to continue.

UFC star Conor McGregor has asked Dana White to increase the bonus payouts ahead of UFC 273 this weekend. Many years ago in April 2013, a young Conor McGregor made his UFC debut by knocking out Marcus Brimage in just over one minute. In his post-fight interview, he called on UFC president Dana White to reward him with a $60,000 bonus for what he deemed to be the Knockout of the Night.

Aljamain Sterling believes he will finish Petr Yan in the first round at UFC 273 to defend his bantamweight title. In the co-main event of UFC 273 from Jacksonville, Florida, Sterling and Yan are having their highly-anticipated rematch to unify their titles. Sterling became the undisputed champion back at UFC 259 last March when Yan was DQ’d for landing an illegal knee. Since then, Sterling has been rehabbing an injury while Yan went on to defeat Cory Sandhagen to become the interim bantamweight champion.

Aljamain Sterling was prepared for the UFC 273 press conference. The UFC bantamweight champion wore a football helmet to confront his foe Petr Yan. ‘Funk Master’ and ‘Mercy’ first fought back at UFC 259 in March 2021. While Sterling had some success in the early rounds, he was fading badly in the championship contest. In round four, Yan had the fight in complete control. For some inexplicable reason, he landed a big illegal knee.
