Kelvin Gastelum releases statement after being forced to withdraw from UFC 273

Kelvin Gastelum has spoken out about being forced off the UFC 273 card. Gastelum was initially set to meet Nassourdine Imavov on April 9 in Jacksonville. Plans changed after Imavov had visa issues. Dricus Du Plessis agreed to relace Imavov but Gastelum has withdrawn from the fight due to injury.

Kelvin Gastelum will no longer be fighting at UFC 273 after all. Gastelum was originally supposed to take on Nassourdine Imavov but the Frenchman was removed from the fight due to visa issues. The expectation was the fight would be moved to UFC 274 but Gastelum wanted to remain on April’s pay-per-view fight card. With that, he agreed to face Dricus Du Plessis. However, now on Friday, the UFC announced the TUF winner has been forced out of the bout due to an injury.

Usman, of course, used to train at the gym but when he was booked to defend his title against Burns, he left to go train under Trevor Wittman. Yet, throughout their fight camp, the two always remained close and they are now training with now another again.
