Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was involved in a shooting in San Jose that left one man injured. According to a report from NBC Bay Area, Velasquez (14-3 MMA) was involved in a shooting that took place on Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue, near Sobrato High School.

Rafael dos Anjos has publically accepted a short-notice offer from Islam Makhachev to fight this weekend. The former UFC lightweight champion was set to face Rafael Fiziev in a rare non-title five-round bout at UFC 272. However, the Kyrgyzstanian fighter was forced to pull out earlier today due to testing positive for COVID-19. Following the announcement, seemingly everyone stepped up to fight the Brazilian.

Gina Carano has shared her take on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The former MMA fighter believes that the war is due to countries losing control of the COVID-19 narrative. The combat sports world has seen many reactions in regard to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Former boxing champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko have been forced to take up arms due to the conflict. Sam Alvey is getting one more fight. Alvey, who is 0-7-1 in his last eight UFC fights, announced on his YouTube channel that the UFC is giving him one more fight. He has one fight left on his deal and the promotion said they enjoy working with him so they are letting him fight out that agreement.

Khamzat Chimaev vs Gilbert Burns is in the works for UFC 273 at the Vystar Veteran’s Memorial in Jacksonville, Florida on April 9th, 2022. Khamzat Chimaev (10-0 MMA) is coming off a first round victory over Li Jingliang (18-7 MMA) at UFC 267 back in October 2021. Prior to that, Khamzat scored a sensational 18-second knockout win over Gerald Meerschaert (34-14 MMA) in September of 2020.

Rafael Fiziev has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 272 co-main event fight against Rafael dos Anjos. On Monday, dos Anjos appeared on The MMA Hour and hinted he heard Fiziev may be out of the fight. He did not know the exact reason but shortly thereafter, Fiziev’s manager texted Ariel Helwani who confirmed the 11th-ranked lightweight was out of the bout due to testing positive for COVID-19. Rafael Fiziev later confirmed the news on social media.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 49, a pivotal lightweight bout headlined the card as Islam Makhachev took on Bobby Green. Makhachev entered the fight coming off a first-round submission win over Dan Hooker at UFC 267 in October. He went 3-0 in 2021 with submission wins over Thiago Moises and Drew Dober as well. Green, meanwhile, stepped up on 10 days’ notice after Beneil Dariush was forced out of the bout, marking his second fight in just 14 days.
