Frank Mir: ‘It Would Be An Honor To Fight Fedor’
Frank Mir added another amazing finish to his highlight reel at last night’s UFC Fight Night event in San Diego, when he floored Todd Duffee with a brutal left hand in the opening round of their main event fight.
The former UFC heavyweight champion has fought a legendary list of heavyweights during his MMA career including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mirko Cro Cop, Junior dos Santos, Josh Barnett, Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, just to name a few.
One legend that Mir has never had the opportunity to square off with is former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko. “The Last Emperor” recently announced that he would like to return to fighting and if he decides to sign a deal with the UFC Frank Mir would ‘absolutely’ like to face him:
“Oh absolutely, I have a lot of respect for Fedor,” Mir told FOX Sports when asked about facing the Russian legend. “I think he just had a couple of bad fights there because the guy had 30 fights where he just ran through everybody. I think maybe he questioned himself and had some doubt and kind of basically did what I did. He’s taking some time off and probably found himself. That guy is a martial artist, if he wasn’t at the gym I’m sure he was still training Sambo or rolling around. The guy’s a very powerful, explosive, very savvy fighter.”
While Mir says he is open to fighting Fedor in the UFC, he would like to see if “The Last Emperor” is still the ‘Monster’ he used to be first:
“An opportunity to face him would be a huge honor,” Mir said. “I might just on the selfish side want him to face somebody first so he could showcase to everybody that he’s still a monster and a scary dude and kind of remind fans of who Fedor is, but after that yeah.”
