After Toying With Free-Agency, Mendes Inks New 8 Fight UFC Deal
Top UFC featherweight Chad ‘Money’ Mendes recently inked a new eight fight deal with the UFC and he’s extremely happy with it.
The Team Alpha Male fighter mentioned to FOX Sports that he was open to checking out free agency after his final fight on his old contract, just to see what he could get, but ultimately the UFC made him realize that they really didn’t want to part ways with him.
Here’s what he had to say about the contract negotiations and what made him stay:
“I’m very excited about it. I had one fight left on my contract and I was open to fighting it out and just kind of seeing what I was worth on the open market and the UFC made it pretty clear they did not want to lose me.”
“It feels good to finally get up there in the contract where you’re making some money and it definitely helps when you’re spending a lot doing these training camps, bringing in partners to help with your training, bringing trainers in and all the stuff you have to do. I’m excited for it, I can’t wait for my next one.”
Sounds like the UFC paid up to make sure he didn’t jump ship and go elsewhere. Good move on their part?
