Amanda Nunes: I’m Ready for Ronda Rousey
Amanda Nunes put on one of the best performances of her career at “UFC Fight Night 73″ when she disposed of Sara McMann in less than three minutes. Nunes walked into the bout as the underdog but did not let the odds get to her head; she landed a big shot that dazed McMann which led to the rear naked choke submission win in a performance that banked her an extra $50,000.
Nunes may not even be ranked in the top five, but neither was Correia when she was granted a shot at Ronda Rousey’s throne. When asked whether she thought she was close to a fight with Rousey, Nunes responded with confidence.
“I’m close now,” Nunes told MMA Junkie. “I see she has a fight coming up. I’m happy to have one more fight. Whatever happens, I’m going to be ready.”
Bethe Correia’s path to a championship shot was a controversial one as the fighters she beat were not of a high caliber. Correia tried to gain momentum leading up to her big fight with Rousey by talking trash… a strategy that ultimately backfired. Nunes claims she would not need to talk trash to earn the shot; She will let her fists do the talking for her.
“I don’t need to talk,” Nunes said. “I’m going to step into the cage and do my thing. My next fights are going to be like this: I’m going to win more bonuses and knock people out. For sure, I’m going to have my title shot soon.”
As for who’s next, Nunes doesn’t care. As long as it’s a top five opponent, she’s game.
“I’ll take it,” she said. “Cat, Alexis Davis. There are a lot of girls in the top five that I would take.”
