Anderson Silva Wants to Fight Roy Jones Jr.

UFC Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva is widely regarded by MMA fans to be one of the best combat sports athletes of all time. Now, with talks of ‘super fights’ gaining traction with each day, Silva states that he would rather fight Roy Jones Jr. instead of stepping in to fight either UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, or UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, “much, much, more”.

In an interview with the NY Post, Silva explained that he respects former boxing champion, Jones Jr:

“I think everyone’s got something they’re focused on and that’s my own desire, something I’d like to do. Maybe one day when I’m done my UFC career I will box Roy Jones.”

As for fights like this actually happening, Silva reiterated the uncertainty of the business:

“You can think, think, think or look for things, but never find it,” Silva said. “It’s hard for me to guess on that.”

The 44-year old Jones Jr. last fought on June 30th of last year, winning a split decision, his second win in a row.

As for Silva, he rides a 17-fight win streak and hasn’t lost a fight legitimately since 2004. The 38-year old Brazilian fights Chris Weidman on July 6th at UFC 162.

Silva also said that if someone like UFC president were to put on such a fight, Silva would like to fight once in a boxing match, and once in the Octagon, under MMA rules.
